The Ministry1 of Education has asked universities to stagger their spring semester opening dates and make preparations for online schooling2.
Universities should also conduct routine nucleic acid tests on key groups of people and the environment and frequently sterilize3 and disinfect important venues4, it added.
At least 16 universities in Beijing have announced that they will postpone5 the start of spring semester and resort to online teaching in the meantime.
Universities the provinces of Anhui, Hebei and Jilin have also announced the move. Meanwhile, Hefei University of Technology in east China's Anhui province has delayed the start of the upcoming spring semester for a week, requiring its teachers and staff to home-quarantine for a week before returning to campus.
